Obituary For Ralph Serio Newsome

Mr. Ralph Sero Newsome, 75, died on Saturday March 18, 2023 at his residence in Houston, TX. Services for Mr. Newsome were held on Sunday March 26, 2023 at Laird Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Marshall Newsome officiating. Interment was in the Silver Creek Church Cemetery, New Hebron, with Laird Mortuary in charge of all arrangements.

Mr. Newsome was the son of the late James Oatis Sr. and Margie Newsome Oatis. Mr. Newsome was baptized, at an early age, at Green Grove Baptist Church later Mr. Newsome moved to New Orleans and united Greater St. Stephen F.G.B. Church.

Mr. Newsome attended Oakley Elementary School and J.E. Johnson High School. Mr. Newsome moved to California, where he played drums in the band for Marvin Gay. Mr. Newsome was also a dancer on Soul Train hosted by Don Cornelius. Mr. Newsome was a mechanic by nature, but should have been a comedian, because his jokes were one of a kind. Mr. Newsome resided in Monroe City, TX for 30 Years.

Mr. Newsome was preceded in death by his wife, Mickey Newsome; mother Margie Newsome Oatis; father James Oatis Sr.; two brothers: John R. P. Magee, (Bo), James Oatis; one sister, Darlene Parkman; sister-in-love Catherine Magee and one brother-in-love Kenneth Mangnon; and his Grandparents, Olivia Hall and Lela Oatis.

Mr. Newsome’s survivors include one daughter Quanta Ling Newsome; three sisters Doris Newsome Mangnon, Prentiss, Maxie O. Tolliver (Malbert), New Orleans, LA, and Peggy Buckley, Atlanta, GA; two brothers: Louis Magee (Gaynell), New Orleans, LA and Bobbie Fred Magee, Sarasota, FL, and a host of relatives.

Visitation services for Mr. Ralph S. Newsome will be on Sunday March 26, 2023 from 1pm-6pm at Laird Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services for Mr. Ralph S. Newsome begin at 6pm on Sunday March 26, 2023 also at Laird Mortuary Chapel. Committal services will be on Monday March 27, 2023, at 11am at Silver Creek Baptist Church.
