Obituary For Betty Jean Barnes
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jean Barnes will be Saturday October 16, 2021 at Prentiss First Baptist Church at 1pm. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday October 15, 2021 from 1-7pm at Laird Mortuary Chapel.
Mrs. Betty Jean Barnes, 87, died Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at her daughter’s residence in rural Jefferson Davis County. Services for Mrs. Barnes were Saturday October 16, 2021 at Prentiss, First Baptist Church, with Pastor Ronald Barnes Officiating. Interment was in the Prentiss First Baptist Church Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of all arrangements.
Mrs. Barnes was the daughter of the late Andrew Gray and Lucinda Hall. Mrs. Barnes graduated from Prentiss Normal and Industrial Institute. Mrs. Barnes worked at Edward Hyman and retired from Magnetek after 25 years of service. Mrs. Barnes also worked at Georgia Pacific in Goss, MS.
Mrs. Barnes was a life long member of Prentiss First Baptist Church and a member Eastern Star.
Mrs. Barnes married the late Herman Barnes and to this union six(6) children were added. Mrs Barnes was preceded in death by three (3) children, Herman Barnes Jr., Ralph Andrew Barnes and Thomas Patrick Barnes, four (4) sisters and three (3) brothers.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by seven (7 daughters: Kathy B. (Ernest C.) Smith, Barbara (Sonny) Young, Jewelene (Willie) Magee, Linda G. Walker, Brenda J. (Rev, Emery) Pounds Sr., Greta (Carl) Weary, and Katrina Barnes, two (2) sons: Robert Charles Barnes and Greg (Kin) Barnes,: 75 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
